What types of counseling do you offer?

I offer individual and couples counseling both in-person and via telephone. I also offer counseling groups and professionally led accountability groups. I do not see wives individually, however I can refer you to a competent female counselor for help.

Typically, when do clients come to counseling?

Most of my clients seek help after they’ve experienced a crisis of truth, In other words, they’ve been caught by a spouse, lost a job, been arrested or had some other disruption in their life due to sexual integrity issues. It is at that point they decide they’re sick and tired of being sick and tired.

What should I expect when counseling with you?

I try to ‘walk a mile in your shoes’. I want to understand where you are coming from and what life is like in your situation. From that vantage point I can more effectively guide you.

In counseling, I attempt to help clients answer several key questions:

What issues do people come to you with?

My clients struggle with some type of sexual integrity issue such as looking at pornography, masturbation, emotional affairs, physical affairs, instant messaging/chatrooms, chat lines and dating/singles sites.

What does it mean to be a Christian counselor?

It means I believe that the power found in Jesus Christ is the foundation for help. I believe the Bible is truth and has applicable meaning for our day-to-day lives. Counseling from a Christian perspective does not mean that my clients need be Christian. It does NOT mean that these issues can or will be ‘prayed away’.

Does my insurance cover the cost?

Unlikely. I am not a part of any insurance panels. Some out-of-network benefits will reimburse for mental health counseling. I can provide receipts if you would like to submit for that. I do make fee exceptions on a sliding fee scale based on income. Please contact me to discuss this.

The other thing that is important to know about insurance coverage is the limited number of counselors who actually work with these issues. It is rare to find a Christian counselor who specializes in sexual integrity work covered by the insurance. If financially your only option is to go with someone covered by your policy, spend the time to interview each counselor and ask them specifics about their knowledge, expertise and experience working with these issues.

Is my story confidential?

The answer is YES, with a couple of exceptions. I am a mandated reporter, which means that I am required by law to report any situation where there is abuse of a child or elder or where there is a threat of harm to oneself or someone else. I understand the sensitive nature of sexual integrity issue and am committed to maintaining strict confidentiality.
